back to school- back to writing- summer highlights

It’s the first day of school and Mr J reluctantly scoots his bottom into the carpool, into 3rd grade. It still hurts from yesterday, he tells me later.  [We drove 11 hrs yesterday- longest road trip ever (with kids). ]

The summer starts slow and before you know its over. Ours started and ended with a wedding. And a few other highlights in between in no particular order:

1. Brian and Kacey’s wedding in Eureka Springs, AR

The girls are enamoured with the bride, the castle, the cake. Mrs L can’t wait to be a flower girl….until its time to actually do it…. and she bails with no regret. Little sister is thrilled to perform the honor, asking for an immediate turn down the aisle again.

2. Silver Dollar City

Old fashioned and fun amusement park in Branson, MS we visit after the wedding. Little sister + crocs= just tall enough for the rides she still talks about.

3. Mrs Lena turns 5 in style with a fabulous Fancy Nancy Tea Party. One request: Next year, please make the entire house FANCY! Noted.

4. Girls get bunk beds and move into one room. A few weeks of what therapists call “Adjustment Disorder” ( with aggressive mood swings) in our youngest- (i’d call her a bit inflexible and shameless in expressing her anger) and they are happily drifting off to sleep in pink and peace.

5. Big Lake Family Camp

We return for the 3rd year to this Central Oregon Gem, probably the kids favorite place. Its the closest we will porbbaly come to camping. Watersports and swimming, mountain biking and hiking, the Girls rides horses, they all try rock climbing. Mr J takes the plunge and gets baptized in Big Lake- the best place in the world, he says.

6. Summer Camps: Basketball for Mr J and Ballet for Mrs L

7. Friends Come to Visit. Old Friends, good friends. Two different families brave the journey. We love them.

8. Cannon Beach. We luck out with some great weather and get a few warm, no wind days on the beach.

9. Road Trip to CA for Katie’s wedding

Mrs L starts Kindergarten this year and we have decided to homeschool which we are both excited about. We’ll see how much teaching we can squeeze in between live performances of “Let it Go” ( song from Frozen :), dress up and dancing.

The girls get along great but our trio does best with some time apart from each other. Our firstborn and junior parent is truly underappreciated in his efforts to control the princess chaos. Hope he can channel that energy into this years multiplication tables 🙂

Happy Back to School!
